An Excerpt from the Forthcoming Memoir
Chapter One
Every Gem Begins Hidden
From Rooted in Grace™: A Memoir of Faith, Resilience, and Purpose
By Pia Copeland
Some of my earliest memories are stitched together with sunlight, sidewalks, and the sound of my own small footsteps. I did not realize it then, but those quiet walks to church were shaping me long before I understood what purpose even meant.
I loved the walk almost as much as the service itself. There was something sacred about the journey. The morning air felt cool against my skin. The trees swayed as if they were greeting me, and the neighborhood seemed to hush itself as I passed by.
Even as a child, I sensed that God met me on the way, not only when I arrived.
Sometimes I hummed softly to myself, pretending I was already part of the choir. Other times, I imagined the music floating out of the church and pulling me toward it like a gentle invitation.
I did not yet have the language for what I was feeling.
But I felt seen.
Held.
Chosen.
Church was not just a building to me.
It was peace.
It was safety.
It was home.
The Women Who Sparked Something in Me
I especially loved watching the older women in the choir rehearse. They fascinated me. Their confidence. Their elegance. The way their voices rose together as if they were pouring strength into the air.
They did not simply sing.
They embodied something.
Grace.
Power.
Sisterhood.
Even as a little girl, I felt drawn to the beauty of women gathering in unity and purpose. Those rehearsals planted quiet seeds in me, seeds of sisterhood, leadership, and connection that would one day grow into DS&P Ladies™ | The House of Gemz™.
