Why I Lead
Leadership is not a title.
It is a responsibility.
I lead because I believe meaningful opportunities should not depend on chance. Strong organizations can make dignity, support, education, and possibility more accessible to the people they serve.
For me, leadership is not about being at the center of the work. It is about creating the conditions for others to grow: listening carefully, making thoughtful decisions, developing people, building trustworthy systems, and remaining accountable to the mission.
I am especially committed to work that empowers women, strengthens families, serves communities, and expands educational opportunity. That commitment requires more than inspiration. It requires structure, stewardship, collaboration, patience, and the willingness to keep improving what has been built.
The true measure of leadership is not whether an organization depends on its founder. It is whether the organization develops the people, practices, and capacity to keep serving long after the founder steps away.

This is not a chronology of positions. It is the story of how experience, education, entrepreneurship, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement have shaped the way I think, decide, build, and serve.
Professional Experience
Learning leadership through service
More than three decades across healthcare administration, financial coordination, operations, hospitality, customer service, marketing, and event planning taught me that leadership begins with listening, preparation, consistency, and care.
Lesson: credibility is built in the daily work, especially when no one is watching.Higher Education
Choosing to remain a lifelong learner
Returning to higher education strengthened my belief that growth has no expiration date. Completing my bachelor’s degree magna cum laude deepened both my knowledge and my confidence to serve with greater wisdom.
Lesson: leadership requires curiosity, discipline, and the humility to keep learning.Early Published Poetry
Finding a voice through writing
In 1989, writing as Pia Althea Clarke, she was one of 160 writers honored from more than 12,000 entries with an Editor’s Choice Award from The National Library of Poetry. Her poem “Wedding Night” was published in the anthology Days of Future’s Past.
Lesson: a creative voice can begin taking shape long before we understand where it will eventually lead.Entrepreneurship
Turning purpose into structure
Entrepreneurship taught me to move from vision to execution: to define purpose, build systems, communicate clearly, and create environments where people feel seen, supported, and able to grow.

Founding a nonprofit expanded my understanding of accountability, board leadership, responsible stewardship, partnerships, and the patient work required to build public trust.

Community engagement continues to shape how I think about impact. The goal is not simply to launch programs, but to develop people, strengthen families, expand opportunity, and build work that can outlast its founder.
